A-Class Student Movers is a Shreveport-born household-goods carrier built around the one thing every Atlas, Mayflower, and Allied franchise in North Louisiana kept botching: the August-1 dorm move-in block. We opened in 2018 out of a Greenwood Road yard off I-20 and we still operate from the same bay today.
Who Ben Whitfield is
Ben Whitfield grew up off Pines Road on the west side of Shreveport, played receiver at Captain Shreve High, and commuted to LSU-Shreveport for his business-administration degree. From 2011 to 2018 he ran warehouse ops at the Atlas Van Lines Shreveport branch, dispatching student-move convoys to Ruston and Grambling every August and watching the same Centenary lease churn hit every May.
“I opened A-Class because the franchises were treating Aug 1 like a normal Tuesday. It is not. It is the busiest 72 hours of the Shreveport calendar and the only way to do it right is to plan around it.” — Ben Whitfield, owner

What sets the operation apart
- Five trucks, eight W-2 movers, eleven on payroll — no day labor, no van-line subcontract.
- Greenwood Road yard off I-20 with secure indoor staging for the August rush.
- Owner-walked estimates — Ben signs every binding flat figure.
- Climate-controlled bay for between-lease and between-semester storage.
- $1M cargo coverage on every load, local or interstate.
How we plan the year
- June 15 — August booking opens. We start blocking LSU-Shreveport, Centenary, Louisiana Tech and BPCC dorm slots.
- Aug 1-15 — dorm move-in cycle. Extended 7am-9pm hours, every truck on the road.
- Jan 4-10 — spring-semester block. Returning students and faculty transfers.
- Mid-May — lease-break window. Centenary off-campus and Louisiana Tech grad-student churn.
Where we run
Local hourly work covers all of Caddo and Bossier Parishes plus Webster, De Soto, and Red River. Long-distance work runs the I-20 and I-49 corridors — Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, New Orleans — with the same Phil-led crew that loaded at your Shreveport curb.
